AR Cleanup & Reconciliation Specialist

About the Opportunity:
Are you the type of accounting professional who lives to turn messy ledgers into clean, reconciled books? Our client—a respected, family-owned company in Broomfield—is seeking an AR Cleanup & Reconciliation Specialist to spearhead a critical transformation in their accounting operations.
This role is perfect for someone who finds satisfaction in unraveling legacy issues in Accounts Receivable, digging into discrepancies, and building streamlined, scalable financial systems. You'll work directly with leadership in a relaxed, supportive office where integrity, humor, and balance are highly valued.
What You’ll Tackle:
Lead the full cleanup of AR: Review aging reports, identify unapplied payments, duplicate entries, incorrect coding, and implement fixes that stick.
Reconcile the unreconciled: Take charge of matching historical transactions and open balances, ensuring books are accurate and audit-ready.
Build smart systems: Design Excel-based trackers and reconciliation tools that give leadership visibility into key AR metrics.
Investigate & document: Interview staff, follow paper trails, and reconstruct workflows to understand what went wrong—and how to prevent it in the future.
Support sustainable collections: Develop and/or train staff on collection strategies tailored to the company’s operations.
Standardize for success: Create rock-solid SOPs for AR and AP functions, aligned with best practices and internal controls.
Collaborate with leadership: Partner with the General Manager and Executive Admin to rebuild accounting practices from the ground up, with scalability in mind.
What You Bring to the Table:
5+ years of accounting experience, ideally in AR-heavy, forensic, or clean-up roles
Deep knowledge of QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop
Excel expertise: pivot tables, advanced formulas, reconciliation modeling
Experience cleaning up aged AR, unposting errors, and unapplied cash
Strong process documentation and SOP development skills
Curiosity and persistence—you don’t stop until the numbers make sense
Comfortable working independently and digging into historical transactions
Nice to Have Traits:
Background in forensic accounting, auditing, or project-based clean-up work
Ability to laugh in the face of chaos—humor goes a long way here
