Accounts Payable Accountant

The Accounts Payable Accountant supports the accounting department by ensuring accurate and timely processing of high-volume accounts payable transactions while maintaining compliance with financial regulations. The Accounts Payable Accountant reports to the Accounting Manager.

• Process, match, and verify approval for accounts payable transactions.
• Reconcile vendor statements, resolve discrepancies, and address vendor inquiries, including issues related to invoices and debit/credit memos.
• Analyze, reconcile, and maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with company, state, and federal regulations.
• Prepare journal entries and assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings.
• Monitor expenditures for compliance with contracts and general accounts.
• Manage accounts payable mailboxes and assist with reception and communication tasks as needed.
• Conduct financial analysis, prepare reports, and recommend improvements to accounting procedures.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED (required); Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred).
• 1-3 years of accounts payable experience in a high-volume environment (required); 3+ years in a university or corporate setting (preferred).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and accounting software, including Dynamics 365, JD Edwards E-1, and OnBase.
• Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize and multitask in a team-oriented environment.
• Must pass pre-employment drug test and criminal background checks.
