Job Title: State & Local Tax (SALT) Associate – Tax Attorney
Job Type: Full-Time
Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid Schedule Available)

Overview:
An exciting opportunity is available for a skilled State & Local Tax (SALT) Associate to join a nationally recognized law firm's Corporate Department within the Employee Benefits & Tax Team. This role is based in our Chicago office and focuses on providing sophisticated tax consulting, planning, compliance, litigation, and policy services to a diverse client base.

The ideal candidate will have at least six years of relevant experience in a law firm or accounting firm, with deep knowledge of state and local income, franchise, and sales/use taxes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Advise clients on complex SALT issues involving multistate income/franchise and sales/use tax matters.

• Handle a range of services, including tax planning, compliance, controversy, litigation, and policy.

• Conduct legal research and prepare technical memoranda and written client deliverables.

• Support clients through audits, administrative appeals, and settlement negotiations.

• Stay current on state and local tax developments, legislative changes, and trends.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school.

• Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

• Minimum 6 years of SALT-related experience in a law firm or accounting firm.

• Strong understanding of state and local income, franchise, and sales/use taxes.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
