Job Description:

Support System Administrator (on-site) - Boston, MA
Expected Salary: $85,000-$95,000

Why Take the role of Support System Administrator?

  • Join a small, crucial internal IT team where you will be instrumental in ensuring operational efficiency, managing core infrastructure, and providing essential support to approximately 136 employees.
  • Work with a wide array of critical systems and technologies, including VMware Horizon VDI, Windows Server OS, Active Directory, Microsoft Purview & Azure, and various backup and networking protocols, offering continuous learning and development.
  • Report directly to the IT Manager – Infrastructure and Security, who is deeply technical and can provide mentorship, allowing you to deepen your expertise in areas like VMware, backups, and VDI.
  • Enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, a matching 401(k) program (up to 6% at 100% match), a pension plan after 5 years, and a hybrid work schedule with generous work-from-home flexibility throughout the year.
  • Be part of a close-knit IT team that sits together, fostering easy collaboration and knowledge sharing, and participating in team-building activities like group lunches and coffee breaks.

What will the Support System Administrator do?

  • Take charge of our VM Horizon environment, including configuring and maintaining "gold images," administering desktop pools (DEM, patching), and ensuring seamless access for both thin-client and PC users.
  • Implement and maintain robust backup strategies for production servers, critical files, and databases. You'll be responsible for scheduling, configuring new backups, fulfilling data recovery requests, and conducting regular testing to guarantee our data is always protected and recoverable.
  • Install and manage all essential applications for our remote users on Horizon images, implementing strong security controls to prevent unauthorized access and performing necessary component upgrades.
  • Administer user accounts through Active Directory and group policies, ensuring ironclad security controls across our systems.
  • Resolve complex PC issues that extend beyond initial helpdesk support, identifying recurring problems and implementing preventative measures to enhance overall system stability.
  • Manage our Teams IP phone system and Five9 call center configurations, handling service calls and software upgrades, and acting as a key liaison with vendors.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, identifying opportunities to enhance our IT infrastructure and operations.
  • Provide essential backup support to our Production Support Analyst and Technical Support Specialist, jumping in to assist with Helpdesk tickets when needed.
  • Take on diverse IT projects, contributing to the continuous improvement and expansion of our systems.

What are the requirements for the Support System Administrator role?

  • 2-4 years of experience (preferably 3-5+ years) configuring and managing VMware Horizon VDI, ESX virtualization, and MS Server OS (2016, 2019, 2022).
  • Proven experience with Windows 11, Active Directory (user accounts, login scripts, group membership, group policies, DNS, DHCP, FSMO, Sites and Services), Microsoft Purview & Azure, and general networking protocols.
  • Strong knowledge of backup and data protection methodologies, with preferred experience in Veeam software, S3 object storage, and SAN storage administration.
  • Systems administration and IT certifications (Microsoft, VMware, or other network-related fields) are desirable.
  • Willingness to work a minimum of 3 days in-office in Boston, MA.
