Position: Assistant Controller
Location: Onsite in Ludington, MI (Relocation bonus offered)

About the Assistant Controller Role

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Assistant Controller to help drive financial planning and analysis across the organization. This role is a key player in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and variance analysis—supporting strategic decision-making and ensuring the integrity of financial data.


Key Responsibilities for Assistant Controller

  • Lead the preparation and consolidation of annual budgets and rolling forecasts in coordination with department leaders

  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and improvement opportunities

  • Support the month-end and year-end close processes by preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements

  • Assist in the development and monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial dashboards

  • Prepare internal financial reports, analysis packages, and presentations for senior leadership

  • Collaborate with operations and department managers to interpret financial results and improve cost controls

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies and controls

  • Support audits by providing documentation and resolving inquiries from external auditors

  • Participate in systems improvements, financial modeling, and process automation initiatives


What You Bring as an Assistant Controller

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required)

  • 4+ years of progressive experience in accounting or financial analysis

  • Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis

  • Solid working knowledge of GAAP and internal control procedures

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP/accounting systems (e.g. Plex)

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills


Preferred Qualifications for Assistant Controller

  • CPA or CMA designation (or actively pursuing)

  • Experience in a manufacturing or multi-entity environment
