Job Description:

Job Title: Medical Coder

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Medical Coder to join our client's team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing medical records, assigning appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations and insurance requirements. This role plays a critical part in optimizing revenue cycle management and ensuring accurate billing and reimbursement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review patient medical records and assign accurate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for diagnoses, procedures, and treatments.
  • Ensure coding accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and payer regulations (CMS, HIPAA, and other guidelines).
  • Work closely with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses and procedures for proper coding.
  • Submit coded information for billing and reimbursement while identifying and correcting any errors.
  • Stay up to date with changes in coding regulations, medical terminology, and industry best practices.
  • Assist in resolving coding discrepancies, claim denials, and audits to ensure timely and accurate payments.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA guidelines.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • CPC (Certified Professional Coder), CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) strongly preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: 2 years of experience in medical coding
  • Proficiency in EHR/EMR systems
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance billing.
  • Knowledge of risk adjustment coding and value-based care models.
  • Experience in handling audits and appeals.
