About the Role

A well‑established nonprofit organization is seeking a Senior Accountant to support core accounting operations, financial reporting, and grants management. Reporting to the Controller, this position plays a critical role in maintaining GAAP compliance, strengthening internal controls, and supporting audits and leadership decision‑making.


Key Responsibilities of Senior Accountant:

  • Maintain the general ledger and perform monthly account reconciliations
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
  • Oversee and reconcile payment and donor subsystems (e.g., Stripe, PayPal, credit cards)
  • Review contracts, grants, and donor agreements for proper revenue recognition
  • Manage grant budgeting, tracking, and financial reporting
  • Monitor accounts receivable and accounts payable aging
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Support year‑end audits, compliance audits, and Form 990 preparation
  • Identify and recommend process improvements and internal control enhancements
  • Participate in special projects such as systems implementations and reporting initiatives

Qualifications of Senior Accountant:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • 5+ years of accounting experience
  • Nonprofit accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Experience with accounting systems; Intacct highly preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Detail‑oriented, proactive, and deadline‑driven
  • Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset
