Part-Time Controller

We are seeking a seasoned Part-Time controller to provide part-time, hands-on financial leadership for a growing manufacturing company in growth mode. This on-site role is designed to support an accounting department by relieving workload and providing senior-level guidance, structure, and process improvement as the business scales.

Role Overview

The Part-time Controller will work closely on technical accounting tasks, month-end close, perform analysis and strengthen core accounting processes. This is a highly collaborative position suited for someone who values competence, honesty, and practical problem-solving over formality or hierarchy.

Key Responsibilities

As Part-Time Controller, primary responsibilities include:

  • Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) and margin analysis (30%)
Evaluate manufacturing costs, analyze margins for bids, and pull and present data from Bills of Materials (BoM) to support pricing and decision-making.

  • Month-End Close guidance and improvement (30%)
Provide oversight, review, and process improvements for the month-end close to increase efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness.

  • Budget analysis and real-time updates (20%)
Support ongoing budget maintenance, variance analysis, and financial updates that inform leadership decisions.

  • Process and system optimization (20%)
Identify opportunities to better utilize QuickBooks Online and the company’s existing ERP system for purchase orders and receipt reconciliation.

This Part-Time Controller role is intentionally hands-on, balancing execution with advisory support to improve current-state processes.

Collaboration & Working Style

The interim controller partners directly with the company’s finance lead to provide senior-level perspective, technical guidance, and mentorship. Success in this role requires a collaborative mindset, a willingness to dive into details, and comfort working in a lean, evolving environment.

Minimum Requirements

The ideal interim controller will bring:

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Significant experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong proficiency with ERP systems, including preparation of P&L and balance sheet reporting
  • Demonstrated experience with COGS analysis and margin evaluation
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and structured financial analysis

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • CPA or equivalent professional certification
  • Experience with contracts and revenue recognition
  • Familiarity with ERP systems supporting purchasing and inventory workflows
  • Formal education in accounting or finance (or equivalent experience)

Culture & Opportunity

The company culture is straightforward and growth-oriented, with a casual dress code where jeans are acceptable.

This Part-Time Controller position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by strengthening financial foundations while helping a growing organization scale with confidence.
