Senior Accountant
Overview
We are seeking a Senior Accountant to support a disorganized accounting department that is significantly behind and undergoing stabilization and modernization efforts. The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in cleaning up historical data, catching up the general ledger, and improving manual accounting processes.
The ideal Senior Accountant is highly self-sufficient, comfortable working with limited documentation, and capable of researching issues independently to drive results. This role requires strong technical accounting skills, ERP expertise, and a collaborative, results-focused mindset.
Core Responsibilities
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for the following key functions:

General Ledger Catch-Up & Reconciliations (Approx. 40–45%)
- Review deposits, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and general fund activity to ensure transactions are properly recorded
- Prepare and post journal entries and research and resolve discrepancies
- Perform bank and account reconciliations across approximately 12 bank accounts, including both high- and low-volume accounts
- Assist with bringing the books current, which are approximately 18 months behind

ERP Data Cleanup & Financial Reporting Support (Approx. 30–35%)
- Review and clean up obsolete and unnecessary data within the ERP system
- Support accurate financial statement preparation by ensuring integrity of historical and current data
- Work efficiently within the system to increase productivity despite limited documentation

Process Organization & Improvement (Approx. 20–25%)
- Assess highly manual, paper-based accounting processes
- Help organize documentation and identify practical process improvements
- Partner with accounting leadership to move work forward while managing competing priorities
Core Competencies & Skills
The successful Senior Accountant will bring:
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and financial reporting
- Proven ability to research and resolve accounting issues independently
- Experience working with large volumes of transactional data
- Advanced Excel skills, including:
- VLOOKUP / XLOOKUP
- Pivot tables
- Exporting and manipulating ERP data
(No macros or advanced scripting required)
Minimum Requirements
Must-Have Qualifications
- Prior experience in a senior-level accounting role
- Exposure to larger or more complex ERP systems
- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance or documentation
- Strong reconciliation, journal entry, and GL cleanup experience
- Results-driven mindset with the ability to prioritize and execute
Pluses
- Experience with Sage 100
- Experience working in environments with fluctuating transaction volumes
