Key Responsibilities of the Staff Accountant

  • Manage federal grant accounting processes, including contract review, reconciliations, journal entries, purchase orders, budget transfers, and compliance reporting as the Staff Accountant
  • Collaborate with financial aid and grant teams to ensure expenditures and reporting follow federal and regulatory requirements as the Staff Accountant
  • Oversee capital asset accounting, including construction-related tracking, reconciliations, and supporting documentation as the Staff Accountant
  • Review and approve financial transactions to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance as the Staff Accountant
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to support audits, reporting requirements, and cross-functional initiatives as the Staff Accountant

Qualifications for the Staff Accountant

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • 2–4 years of grant or government accounting experience; higher education experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with capital asset accounting and ERP systems such as PeopleSoft; prior supervisory experience overseeing multiple staff members required
