Our client is seeking a Accounting Manager to support the financial performance of a growing construction organization. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing job costing, project financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and Work-in-Progress (WIP) analysis while partnering closely with operations and project management teams. The ideal candidate will bring strong construction accounting experience, exceptional analytical skills, and a collaborative leadership style.
OVERVIEW OF THE ACCOUNTING MANAGER ROLE:
- Oversee project budgets, commitments, forecasts, and actual costs across multiple construction projects.
- Monitor job cost performance and partner with Project Managers and field leadership to investigate and resolve variances.
- Support the month-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and cost adjustments.
- Prepare and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and project profitability reporting.
- Ensure accurate job costing in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
- Assist with monthly financial forecasts and project performance reporting.
- Participate in the annual budgeting process and ongoing financial planning.
- Prepare financial reports for leadership, highlighting project performance, trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Analyze project financial data to support strategic business decisions.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls related to project accounting.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Support internal and external audits by providing financial documentation and analysis.
- Assist with tax reporting requirements and ensure proper documentation for change orders, subcontract agreements, and project-related financial records.
- Lead and mentor job cost and accounting team members.
- Partner closely with Operations, Project Management, and Finance to improve project financial performance.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve reporting efficiency.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across accounting and project controls.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ACCOUNTING MANAGER ROLE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with construction accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, job costing, project accounting, and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting.
- Experience with project forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis.
- Experience with Viewpoint Vista or a similar construction ERP system is preferred.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial data analysis.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across finance and operations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
