Senior Accountant

Our client, a mission-driven nonprofit organization, is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join their finance team in Providence, RI. This role is responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close activities, and compliance efforts while partnering with leadership to ensure sound financial management and reporting accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with monthly and annual close processes, including journal entries, accruals, allocations, prepaids, and intercompany transactions.
  • Prepare account reconciliations and maintain supporting schedules for fixed assets, leases, and other balance sheet accounts.
  • Reconcile bank and investment accounts, investigate discrepancies, and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Support grant accounting activities, funding tracking, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Assist with annual audits, tax filings, and preparation of supporting documentation.
  • Participate in budget preparation, monitoring, and financial analysis.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and organizational policies.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and support special projects.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • CPA or CPA-track preferred.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, with nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems; Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) is a plus.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Salary Range:

$77,000 – $95,000
