Senior Accountant
Our client, a mission-driven nonprofit organization, is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join their finance team in Providence, RI. This role is responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close activities, and compliance efforts while partnering with leadership to ensure sound financial management and reporting accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with monthly and annual close processes, including journal entries, accruals, allocations, prepaids, and intercompany transactions.
- Prepare account reconciliations and maintain supporting schedules for fixed assets, leases, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Reconcile bank and investment accounts, investigate discrepancies, and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Support grant accounting activities, funding tracking, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Assist with annual audits, tax filings, and preparation of supporting documentation.
- Participate in budget preparation, monitoring, and financial analysis.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and organizational policies.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and support special projects.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- CPA or CPA-track preferred.
- 5+ years of accounting experience, with nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems; Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) is a plus.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Salary Range:
$77,000 – $95,000
