About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking an Assistant Controller to join its finance leadership team.
This role offers a unique opportunity to own critical accounting and reporting functions while partnering closely with operational leadership. The successful candidate will play a key role in month-end close, financial reporting, account reconciliations, cost accounting, and business performance analysis.
This is an ideal opportunity for an Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, or public accounting professional looking to take the next step toward a Controller position.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Own the month-end and year-end close processes
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
- Support audits and compliance initiatives
Cost Accounting & Operational Analysis
- Lead cost accounting activities and analysis
- Analyze costs, variances, and profitability drivers
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and financial performance
- Support inventory and operational accounting activities
- Partner with leadership to improve decision-making through financial analysis
Business Partnership
- Work closely with the General Manager and leadership team
- Deliver meaningful financial insights and recommendations
- Monitor key operational and financial metrics
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and planning initiatives
- Assist leadership with strategic decision-making and performance analysis
Process Improvement
- Reconcile and resolve outstanding account reconciliation issues
- Strengthen accounting controls and financial processes
- Improve reporting efficiency and data quality
- Support system enhancements and automation initiatives
- Drive continuous improvement across accounting operations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA preferred but not required
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Public accounting experience is a strong plus
- Experience owning month-end close and financial reporting
- Strong account reconciliation experience
- Cost accounting experience preferred
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience with ERP systems and reporting tools
- Experience with:
- Syteline
- Oracle
- Power BI
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently in a high-visibility environment
- Excellent communication and business partnering abilities
