Assistant Director Responsibilities

  • Manage daily accounting operations and general ledger activities

  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting

  • Ensure accounting activities comply with GAAP, GASB, and applicable regulations

  • Oversee internal controls and accounting procedures

  • Review and approve reconciliations and financial activity

  • Oversee accounting for organizational assets

  • Manage and develop accounting and support teams

  • Handle hiring, performance management, training, and employee development

  • Partner with IT and leadership on financial system upgrades and improvements

  • Coordinate annual audit activities and financial reporting

  • Provide financial guidance to internal departments and stakeholders

  • Standardize procedures and identify opportunities to improve accounting efficiency

  • Support organizational initiatives and special projects

Assistant Director Qualifications

  • 5+ years of accounting experience

  • 3+ years of experience supervising staff

  • Education or government accounting background strongly preferred

  • Strong governmental accounting knowledge and experience

  • Experience with large, complex computerized/integrated financial systems

  • Strong understanding of GAAP, GASB, internal controls, and financial reporting

  • Experience managing and motivating accounting professionals

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent advanced training in Accounting or a related field

  • CPA preferred

  • Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Hands-on, collaborative leadership style

  • Comfortable leading teams through change and process improvement

Salary Range

$103,000-$125,000
