CFS is partnering with a leading nonprofit organization in Providence, RI to hire a Controller.

Controller

Location: Providence, RI (Hybrid Schedule)
Salary: $130,000-$150,000

Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations of a mission-driven nonprofit organization. This is an outstanding opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader who thrives in a collaborative environment and brings extensive nonprofit accounting expertise.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end close
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial statements and management reports
  • Lead the annual audit process and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, grant requirements, and regulatory reporting
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis
  • Monitor internal controls and recommend process improvements
  • Support senior leadership with financial planning and strategic decision-making
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA preferred
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Extensive nonprofit accounting experience required
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, grants management, and nonprofit financial reporting
  • Prior leadership and staff management experience
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience with nonprofit ERP or accounting systems preferred
