Accounting Director

Compensation: $100,000 – $120,000
Work Arrangement: Remote | Eastern Standard Time

The Opportunity

A highly regarded nonprofit organization is looking for an experienced Accounting Director to provide leadership across its accounting function while helping advance broader financial and operational initiatives. Working alongside experienced leaders across Finance, HR, and IT, the Accounting Director will have visibility into enterprise-wide initiatives and play an important role in improving how the organization operates.

Core Responsibilities

As Accounting Director, you will oversee the organization’s core accounting activities and contribute to broader financial planning and operational initiatives.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Direct day-to-day general accounting operations, including the general ledger, payroll, fixed assets, and statutory reporting

  • Lead and oversee monthly and fiscal year-end close activities, with an emphasis on accuracy, consistency, and efficiency

  • Establish and maintain effective internal controls and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and accounting standards

  • Coordinate and oversee both internal and external audit processes, including preparation and maintenance of supporting financial documentation

  • Partner with Finance leadership on budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and executive-level reporting

  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve scalability

  • Lead initiatives involving automation, AI, and digital transformation

  • Support the continued development of accounting professionals through coaching, mentoring, and leadership

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline

  • CPA or MBA preferred

  • 7–9 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience spanning public accounting and industry

  • 3–5 years of accounting management, leadership, or supervisory experience

  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, ERP systems, and financial compliance

  • Demonstrated ability to lead accounting operations while contributing to broader financial and organizational initiatives
