Accounting Specialist Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and revenue and expense reports
  • The Accounting Specialist will record journal entries and prepare adjusting entries during the month-end and year-end close processes
  • Analyze financial data and prepare reports and projections for management
  • Assist with grant accounting and ensuring proper tracking of restricted funds
  • The Accounting Specialist will support the preparation of interim reports and the organization’s comprehensive annual financial report
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures
  • Utilize JD Edwards and Excel to extract, analyze, and reconcile financial data
  • The Accounting Specialist will collaborate with team members on special projects and process improvements

Preferred Qualifications for the Accounting Specialist Role

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 1-3+ years of accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of debits, credits, journal entries, and financial statement preparation
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, including working with large spreadsheets
  • Experience with JD Edwards or another ERP system is a plus
  • Self-starter with strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively while managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines
