Accounting Supervisor

Location: Burlington, MA (Hybrid – 3 Days Onsite)
Compensation: $95,000–$110,000

Position Overview

A well-established, mission-driven organization in the insurance and financial services sector is seeking an experienced Accounting Supervisor to oversee day-to-day accounting operations and support accurate, timely financial reporting. This role partners closely with the Controller and Finance leadership and plays a key role in maintaining strong internal controls, regulatory compliance, and team development.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, prior supervisory experience, and comfort working in a regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations & Reporting

  • Oversee daily accounting functions, including general ledger activity, accounts payable, and cash transactions
  • Review and approve journal entries and monthly account reconciliations
  • Maintain the chart of accounts and prepare trial balances
  • Prepare, analyze, and review quarterly and year-end financial statements
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable statutory accounting standards

Compliance & Audit Support

  • Support all statutory and regulatory financial reporting requirements
  • Assist with preparation of audit schedules and coordination with external auditors
  • Maintain strong internal controls to protect organizational assets
  • Ensure adherence to internal compliance, security, and financial policies

Leadership & Process Improvement

  • Supervise, coach, and develop accounting staff, providing ongoing feedback and performance evaluations
  • Communicate department goals and expectations clearly and consistently
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and operational efficiency
  • Support finance-related projects and cross-functional initiatives as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Prior supervisory or team lead experience required
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP; experience with statutory or regulated insurance reporting a plus
  • Experience with month-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and advanced Excel skills
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership abilities

Work Environment

  • Hybrid schedule with three days onsite in Burlington, MA
  • Standard business hours
  • No travel required
