Accounts Payable Specialist

Location: Gary, IN
Salary: $45,760 – $52,000 annually

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Payable Specialist to join their growing accounting team in Gary, IN. This is a newly created position due to company growth and offers the opportunity to build a long-term career within a stable construction organization. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, and thrives in a fast-paced environment while delivering accurate, high-quality work. Construction accounting experience is a plus but not required.

Key Responsibilities

• Process a high volume of vendor invoices using a paperless accounts payable system.
• Review, code, and enter invoices accurately into SAGE 300 Construction & Real Estate (CRE).
• Maintain vendor accounts, reconcile statements, and resolve invoice discrepancies.
• Assist with weekly check runs, including payment processing, check generation, mailing, and electronic payments.
• Support the company’s employee expense management program by reviewing expense reports, verifying receipts, ensuring proper GL coding, and following up with cardholders as needed.
• Process virtual credit card and online vendor payments.
• Communicate professionally with vendors, project managers, and internal departments regarding invoice and payment inquiries.
• Cross-train within the accounting department and assist with additional AP functions and special projects.
• Maintain organized electronic records and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of Accounts Payable experience preferred (entry-level candidates with strong administrative/accounting aptitude will be considered).
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with SAGE 300 CRE is highly preferred but not required.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
