AR Project Accountant Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the accounts receivable and project accounting lifecycle for multiple construction projects.
  • Set up new jobs within the accounting system, ensuring proper coding, budgets, and contract documentation.
  • Review owner contracts for billing requirements, retainage, change order language, payment terms, and compliance obligations.
  • Prepare, review, and submit owner billings, including:
    • Progress Billings
    • Time & Materials (T&M)
    • Cost Plus
    • Percentage of Completion
  • Prepare and manage pay applications in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain Schedules of Values (SOVs) throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain accurate Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, supporting month-end financial reporting and project forecasting.
  • Monitor project budgets and perform detailed job costing analysis to identify cost variances and profitability trends.
  • Review project costs, committed costs, subcontractor invoices, purchase orders, and change orders for accuracy.
  • Track outstanding receivables and follow up on customer payments as needed.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to monitor project financial performance, billing status, forecast costs, and maximize profitability.
  • Assist with month-end close and ensure project financial information is accurate and up to date.

AR Project Accountant Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred, NOT required
  • 3+ years of Construction Project Accounting or Construction Accounts Receivable experience within commercial construction or a related industry.
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • Lien Waivers
    • Pay Applications
    • Schedules of Values (SOVs)
    • Work-in-Progress (WIP) Schedules
    • Job Costing
    • Job Setup
    • Complex Contract Review
    • Construction Billing / Accounts Receivable
  • Experience supporting multiple Project Managers simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Salary: Up to $90K
