Assistant Controller

Compensation: $120,000 – $140,000 + Annual Bonus
Location: Orlando, FL | Onsite

Must be based in or within commuting distance of the Greater Orlando area.
Construction accounting experience required.

Key Responsibilities of the Assistant Controller

  • Work closely with the Controller to oversee day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting
  • Lead key components of the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process
  • Prepare and review financial statements, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Review work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, overbillings, underbillings, job costing, and percentage-of-completion accounting
  • Analyze financial results and investigate significant account and project variances
  • Support annual financial statement audits and coordinate requested documentation with external auditors
  • Maintain appropriate accounting controls and support compliance with U.S. GAAP
  • Partner with Accounts Payable, Billing, Collections, and Operations to resolve accounting and reporting matters
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, reporting, controls, and system utilization
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and other accounting and finance projects
  • Provide accounting guidance, coaching, and support to members of the accounting team
  • Assume additional supervisory responsibilities as accounting department needs evolve

Qualifications for the Assistant Controller

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Construction accounting experience required
  • Prior experience managing, supervising, mentoring, or leading accounting professionals required
  • Strong experience with month-end close, financial reporting, general ledger accounting, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Hands-on experience with WIP schedules, overbillings, underbillings, job costing, and percentage-of-completion accounting
  • Experience supporting annual financial statement audits
  • Experience working with construction accounting or ERP systems
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and internal controls
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Ability to independently manage accounting responsibilities and established reporting deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively with Accounting, Finance, and Operations teams
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements
