Assistant Controller
Location: South Bend, Indiana
Work Arrangement: Fully Onsite
Salary: $100,000–$120,000
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Assistant Controller to join a growing organization in South Bend, Indiana. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with 4+ years of progressive experience who is ready to take the next step in their career and grow into a larger leadership role within the organization.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in cost accounting, financial reporting, and general accounting, along with experience in a public accounting environment. This individual will work closely with leadership and operational teams to provide accurate financial information, strengthen processes, and support key business decisions.
Key Responsibilities

Support the Controller with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes and financial reporting.

Prepare and analyze financial statements, account reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules.

Take ownership of cost accounting, including inventory, standard costs, variances, margins, and manufacturing-related analysis.

Partner with operations and leadership to analyze financial performance, identify trends, and provide actionable insights.

Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.

Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting processes.

Support external audits and serve as a key accounting contact for public accounting partners.

Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and increased efficiency across the accounting function.

Assist with developing and improving accounting policies, procedures, and reporting processes.

Take on increasing responsibility with the goal of progressing into a broader Controller-level leadership position.
Qualifications

4+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Public accounting experience strongly preferred.

Strong hands-on experience with cost accounting, preferably within a manufacturing environment.

Solid understanding of financial reporting, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand and communicate financial results.

Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both accounting and operational teams.

Demonstrated ability to identify problems, improve processes, and take ownership of responsibilities.
