Assistant Director Responsibilities

Manage daily accounting operations and general ledger activities
-
Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
-
Ensure accounting activities comply with GAAP, GASB, and applicable regulations
-
Oversee internal controls and accounting procedures
-
Review and approve reconciliations and financial activity
-
Oversee accounting for organizational assets
-
Manage and develop accounting and support teams
-
Handle hiring, performance management, training, and employee development
-
Partner with IT and leadership on financial system upgrades and improvements
-
Coordinate annual audit activities and financial reporting
-
Provide financial guidance to internal departments and stakeholders
-
Standardize procedures and identify opportunities to improve accounting efficiency

Support organizational initiatives and special projects
Assistant Director Qualifications
-
5+ years of accounting experience
-
3+ years of experience supervising staff
-
Education or government accounting background strongly preferred

Strong governmental accounting knowledge and experience

Experience with large, complex computerized/integrated financial systems

Strong understanding of GAAP, GASB, internal controls, and financial reporting

Experience managing and motivating accounting professionals
-
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent advanced training in Accounting or a related field

CPA preferred

Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Hands-on, collaborative leadership style
-
Comfortable leading teams through change and process improvement
Salary Range
$103,000-$125,000
