Key Responsibilities of the Cost Accountant
- Maintain and analyze standard costing, inventory valuation, and product costing across manufacturing operations
- Prepare monthly inventory reconciliations, cost analyses, and journal entries
- Support month-end close activities related to inventory, manufacturing costs, and cost of goods sold
- Analyze manufacturing variances, labor, material, and overhead costs while providing actionable recommendations
- Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, and Production teams to improve cost visibility and operational performance
- Assist with annual standard cost updates, budgeting, and forecasting activities
- Support inventory cycle counts, physical inventories, and audit requirements
- Evaluate manufacturing processes and recommend cost-saving opportunities and process improvements
- Prepare financial reports and ad hoc analysis for leadership
Qualifications for the Cost Accountant
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 3–5 years of cost accounting experience within a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of standard costing, inventory accounting, and cost of goods sold
- Experience supporting month-end close, inventory reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required
- Experience working with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment
- CPA or CMA preferred, but not required
- Medical device or highly regulated manufacturing experience is a plus
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements
