Our client, a long‑established custom manufacturer undergoing a major operational upgrade, is seeking a Cost Accounting Consultant to lead a critical project focused on building a formal cost accounting structure. This is a hands‑on, onsite role supporting a collaborative, production‑driven environment where every project is uniquely engineered.
The Cost Accounting Consultant will analyze historical project data, develop accurate costing models, and build a repeatable process that can be integrated into the company’s existing systems. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in small‑company manufacturing settings and enjoys creating structure from the ground up.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as the primary Cost Accounting Consultant for all costing initiatives.
- Review 12+ months of historical project data to determine true material, labor, and overhead costs.
- Build cost profiles and job‑costing models (60–70% Excel).
- Develop templates and tools to standardize cost capture and analysis.
- Partner with engineering, operations, and accounting to understand fabrication processes and inputs.
- Integrate costing workflows into ERP and document procedures.
- Support the annual inventory count and ensure accurate data collection.
What You Bring
- Strong background in cost accounting within small‑to‑mid‑size manufacturing.
- Experience building cost accounting processes from scratch.
- Advanced Excel skills (modeling, formulas, data structuring).
- Familiarity with larger ERP systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively with shop floor teams, engineers, and leadership.
- Naturally curious, investigative, and comfortable in a hands‑on, blue‑collar environment.
