Director of Finance
A mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking a Director of Finance to join its leadership team.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the Vice President of Finance & CFO, the Director of Finance will play a key leadership role within the finance function. This position oversees 2 direct reports and partners closely with the CFO, Controller, and cross-functional teams across the organization.
The role is responsible for both operational and strategic financial leadership, with a strong emphasis on reporting, compliance, and system/process improvements within a nonprofit environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee endowment accounting, treasury, and cash management functions
- Support construction and capital project accounting
- Manage portfolio and investment reporting and analysis
- Oversee contract administration and financial compliance processes
- Strengthen internal controls and ensure GAAP-compliant nonprofit reporting
- Lead financial reporting, audit support, and financial analysis
- Partner with leadership on system enhancements and process improvements
- Provide ad hoc financial analysis across departments
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 5–8 years of progressive accounting/finance experience
- Nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred
- Experience with endowments, treasury, and financial reporting
- Financial Edge experience a plus (not required)
- Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required
- MBA a plus
