Payroll Accountant Opportunity – North of Atlanta

A well-established and collaborative organization located just north of Atlanta is seeking a Payroll Accountant to join its growing accounting team. The Payroll Accountant will work closely with the Accounting Manager and interact regularly with leadership, offering strong visibility and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact across departments. Key Responsibilities for the Payroll Accountant

Payroll & Employee Support

  • Lead full-cycle, bi-weekly payroll processing with a focus on precision and timeliness as the primary Payroll Accountant
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with applicable regulations (federal, state, and local)
  • Prepare and post payroll-related journal entries as part of the Payroll Accountant function
  • Reconcile payroll taxes and assist with year-end deliverables such as W-2 reporting
  • Administer payroll deductions, including benefits and retirement contributions
  • Address employee payroll questions and resolve discrepancies efficiently
  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes, including documentation management
  • Assist with 401(k) funding, reconciliations, and audit activities
  • Collaborate with leadership on employee-related initiatives, including performance review cycles

Accounting & Financial Responsibilities

  • Prepare and record journal entries, including accruals and adjusting entries
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations and analyze fluctuations
  • Contribute to month-end and year-end close activities
  • Maintain integrity of the general ledger and assist with financial reporting
  • Support audit preparation and respond to external auditor requests
  • Reconcile various company accounts
  • Provide support for Accounts Payable functions as needed

Qualifications for the Payroll Accountant Role

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related discipline preferred (relevant experience considered)
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience
  • Required: hands-on payroll processing experience and experience recording payroll journal entries
  • Prior experience managing payroll for 100+ employees strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and payroll platforms
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to succeed in a dual-function Payroll Accountant role
