Position Overview

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to manage full-cycle payroll for a large employee population, including active employees and retirees. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently in a supportive, team-focused environment and takes pride in maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.

Payroll Specialist Responsibilities

  • Process biweekly payroll for approximately 1,200 employees and 400 retirees.

  • The Payroll Specialist will reconcile payroll, verify balances, and maintain accurate payroll records using Excel and payroll systems.

  • Track and maintain confidential personnel records and PTO/vacation balances in Excel.

  • The Payroll Specialist will ensure compliance with payroll tax regulations and assist with filings, audits, and year-end reporting (fiscal year ends June 30).

  • Serve as a point of contact for payroll-related questions, providing clear and helpful guidance to employees.

  • The Payroll Specialist will assist with general ledger support and administrative tasks as needed.

Qualifications of the Payroll Specialist Role

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field or equivalent payroll experience.

  • Previous full-cycle payroll experience required; experience in a small organization is a plus.

  • Basic Excel skills including formulas, tables, and data entry (advanced functions not required).

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Friendly, patient, and collaborative personality with strong communication skills.
