Key Responsibilities of the Property Accountant
- Manage the full-cycle accounting function for an assigned portfolio of multifamily properties as the Property Accountant
- Prepare monthly financial statements, journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules as the Property Accountant
- Complete month-end close activities, including variance analysis and balance sheet reconciliations as the Property Accountant
- Monitor cash balances, forecast cash requirements, and oversee property banking activities as the Property Accountant
- Calculate management fees, owner distributions, accruals, and reclassification entries as the Property Accountant
- Partner with on-site Property Management teams to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting as the Property Accountant
- Analyze monthly operating results and provide financial insights and recommendations to leadership as the Property Accountant
- Track lender escrows, replacement reserves, debt service obligations, and related property accounting activities as the Property Accountant
- Assist with budgets, forecasting, audits, acquisitions, dispositions, and special projects as the Property Accountant
Qualifications for the Property Accountant
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- Minimum of 3 years of property accounting experience, with multifamily experience strongly preferred
- Experience managing the complete accounting cycle for multiple properties
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial statement preparation, month-end close, and account reconciliations
- Experience with Yardi, MRI, RealPage, or similar property accounting platforms
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting preferred
- CPA or active CPA candidate is a plus
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements
