Senior Director of Payroll

Location: Owings Mills, MD (HYBRID: 3 days in office)

Salary:
$130,000-$145,000 base salary + 10% bonus potential

We are partnering with a highly-reputable, privately-held company in Owings Mills, MD to hire a Senior Director of Payroll to lead and elevate their payroll function. Key Responsibilities for the Senior Director of Payroll:

  • Lead end-to-end payroll operations across the U.S. and Canada with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and compliance
  • Serve as the subject matter expert in payroll tax and regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions
  • Drive process improvement, automation, and standardization across payroll systems and workflows
  • Establish strong internal controls, audit readiness, and risk mitigation practices
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing payroll team, building depth through cross-training
  • Partner closely with Finance, HR, and Operations to ensure seamless payroll integration and support business initiatives
  • Support system implementations, acquisitions, and integration efforts

Qualifications for the Senior Director of Payroll:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or related field
    • 8+ years of progressive payroll experience, including 5+ years in leadership
    • Experience managing complex, multi-entity payroll environments
    • Strong expertise in payroll tax, compliance, and multi-state/cross-border regulations
    • Proven leadership skills with a track record of building and developing teams
    • Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on when needed
