About the Opportunity

A rapidly growing, private equity–backed construction services company in Baltimore is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to join its expanding accounting team. With strong revenue growth (projected ~$70M in 2026) and increased operational complexity, this is a newly created role designed to support enhanced cost accounting and Work-in-Progress (WIP) processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and support AR, AP, and payroll sub-ledgers
  • Serve as the primary liaison between accounting and project management teams
  • Manage and analyze:
    • Change orders
    • Missing or delayed job costs
    • Billing gaps and discrepancies
  • Execute core accounting functions:
    • Month-end close
    • Journal entries
    • Bank reconciliations
  • Maintain and track fixed assets and depreciation (heavy equipment focus)
  • Own and update Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules:
    • Multi-month WIP cycles (~6 months)
    • Detailed job-level profitability analysis

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • 3–7+ years of accounting experience (construction industry strongly preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with WIP and/or cost accounting highly preferred
  • Strong understanding of job costing and project-based accounting
  • Experience with Vista / Viewpoint or similar ERP systems a plus
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with operations and project teams
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills

Compensation & Work Environment

  • Base Salary: $90,000 – $100,000
  • Bonus: Up to 10%
  • Schedule: ~45 hours/week
    • Option for 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM or 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Work Arrangement: 100% on-site (Baltimore, MD)
