ABOUT THE COMPANY
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join their accounting team. This position is a great opportunity for an accounting professional with 2+ years of experience who is interested in expanding their skills within a dynamic organization.
The Staff Accountant will have a primary focus on lease and real estate accounting, while also supporting general accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting.
OVERVIEW OF THE STAFF ACCOUNTANT ROLE

Manage accounting activities related to the company’s real estate lease portfolio.

Maintain accurate lease records, schedules, and supporting documentation.

Review lease agreements and amendments to identify accounting and financial impacts.

Perform monthly lease accounting calculations, journal entries, and reconciliations.

Assist with ASC 842 lease accounting requirements and reporting.

Reconcile lease-related and other general ledger accounts and investigate variances or discrepancies.

Track rent, operating expenses, escalations, abatements, and other lease-related activity.

Partner with property management, real estate, Accounts Payable, and other internal teams to ensure accurate financial information.

The Staff Accountant will assist with month-end and year-end close activities.

Support the preparation of financial reports, schedules, and audit documentation.

Maintain compliance with company accounting policies and applicable GAAP requirements.

The Staff Accountant will assist with lease audits and provide documentation to external auditors as needed.

Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and internal controls.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS OF THE STAFF ACCOUNTANT ROLE

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.

2+ years of accounting experience, preferably within real estate, property management, or lease accounting.

Working knowledge of GAAP and ASC 842.

Experience with account reconciliations and month-end close.

Strong Excel skills and the ability to work with large amounts of financial data.

Experience reviewing contracts, leases, or other financial agreements preferred.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Experience with real estate accounting software or ERP systems is a plus.
